How do you make an open end wrench?

I would like to learn how to make wrenches my first one will be an 11/16 open end wrench. I would like to make tools at my home as a hobby.

Unless you are willing to invest in some heavy duty equipment I suggest you find another hobby. As the Doc says these kinds of tools are drop forged. Read up on what’s required for that process and I think you will take up stamp collecting! Or maybe woodworking. Wood is much easier to work with than molten steel!

Hmmm; a valid notion I guess; but considering that wrenches of that type are often Drop forged; I suspect you have to use that method or some stainless steel bar and Tool the openings to exact dimensions.

If they are not going to be used, you can do this. Wrenches need to have strength to be used and the process isn’t cheap. I have made some specialty wrenches for certain jobs that don’t require torque.

I’ve occasionally made wrenches using 1/4" mild steel and a bandsaw but these were for bizarre fittings or where a conventional wrench wouldn’t fit. Other than that, making your own is not a viable proposition.
