Which 18v cordless drill is the most reliable makita 8444dwde or dewalt 925?
While I own many of both brands, I have to agree with scarface regarding battery life. Part of an issue I have is that the cost of a new battery is at least half the cost of the entire drill kit, although that makes sense since the drill is no more than a small boat anchor without a working battery.
One thing to keep in mind however, is that both have similar or same components, manufactured in the same country, and branded in Yellow or Turquoise Blue.
As one other states, Obviously both are decent products, and as another states, it largely depends on your use/intent.
Another thing to consider is SERVICE. I have no clue about Makita, and I’m not talking about guarantee, but service locations, which Dewalt has all over the country.
Finally, and certainly with no offense to anyone, the choice of a brand of tool, isn’t much different than ones personal opinions about Vehicle brands, Paint brands, Politics, and/or Religion.

Both are good,Dewalt can really take a beating though. If you are only using it as a home owner makita is fine, for daily use go with dewalt.

Most likely when people choose between 2 items, they get the expensive one. I dont know what is the diffrence, they have to be good drills, or else they shoud not be on the market. I would ask a hardwear store associate. Good Luck!

i have used both and dewalt battery didnt last as long as the makita
my use with them was with contract work non stop

I have a 925 on my work van. The drill works great (battery life is suspect after one year of use). At home I use a Makita 452. The Makita is lighter has a better balance to it. Your arms won’t get a work out with the Makita.

never owned a mikita but i’ve heard from ppl who use them that they are good tools.
i use DeWalt and they are powerful, reliable and rugged enough to have survived countless drops from 12′ and 14′ ladders.

I prefer to use a corded drill where I can because I think it has more power. But then the 14.4 volt Black & Decker drill I have doesn’t hold a charge for long.
Dewalt has now bought out Black & Decker. I have heard people say they have had good experience with Dewalt.

Dean made a good point…if they aren’t good they shouldn’t be on the market.
Unfortunately, both Makita and Dewalt are good tools but it depends on where you buy them. The big box stores have been known to change the dies on brand products to reduce the prices. If it’s just for around the house its probably fine but get into heavy-duty use and ouch…burn out! I prefer Dewalt only because there is a Dewalt store nearby for service and sales.

My personal opinion if Dewalt is junk. I have used several dewalt drills at work and they don’t last very long. I would go with makita if that was my only choices. I like Milwaukee tools. They are built like a tank and last forever.
