TWO PROBLEM SOLVING WITH EQUATIONS (using x if needed) GIVING 10 POINTS TO BEST ANSWER AND SHOW YOUR WORK.?
1. The sum of 180$ was divided among 3 people so that the second person received $6 less than twice as much as the first, and the third received $7 more than the second. How much did each person receive ?
2. Stanley worked 6 more than twice as many hours as Kathleen did. How many hours did each work if together they worked 69 hours ?
1. $180 among 3 people. 1st person is x. 2nd has less than twice of 1st, so 2x-6. 3rd has received 7 more than the 2nd, so (2x-6)+7=2x+1
180= x + (2x-6) + (2x+1)
180= 5x-5
185=5x
x=$37. First person
2x-6=(2)(37)-6=$68. Second person.
2x+1=(2)(37)+1= $75 Third Person.
2) Kathleen worked x hours. Stanley worked 6 more than twice as many as Kathleen. 2x+6
Total they had 69 hours.
x+2x+6=69
3x=63
x=21. Kathleen worked 21 hours.
2(21)+6=48. Stanley worked 48 hours.
PLEASE HELP!!!! ENGINEERING ECONOMIC EQUIVALENCE!?
A unit of Stanley Works, a provider of tools, hardware and door systems, offered $45.3 million to purchase security systems company Frisco Bay Industries Ltd., in early 2004 in order to diversify Stanley’s business. At the time, Frisco Bay had annual sales of $40 million. One way in which to value the purchase of another company is to assume that it will continue its normal operations indefinitely. If the annual rate of interest is 12%, determine whether the following cash flows are equivalent to the purchase price, which is assumed to be a present value:
(a) $5.4 million in annual profits that continue indefinitely
(b) $4.0 million in annual profits that grow by $0.1 million per year thereafter indefinitely
I know you can make cash flows and use present value on Excel, but does anyone know a good process to do so?
Disregarding Excel,
(a) $5.4 million < 0.12 * $45.3 million = $5.436 million; The cash flow will never equal the value of the $5.4 million % 0.12 %/yr. (Wow, some interest rate!)
(b) After 15 years, the growth will result in a yearly return greater than the expected interest. After still more years, the total profits will exceed those of the total interest the original purchase price would have accrued. This is more than equivalent. However, there is the risk that the expected values may change. Had Stanley offered $45 million, that would be equivalence. Profit would have to be expected from total Stanley sales considering diversity.
.
5.4 million is greater than 12% of 45.3 million and so a good deal for Stanley if accepted.
(b) It would take 8 years for the 4 million plus 0.1 million/yr to even equal 12 % of 48 million

Are there any suggestions for a retailer/ manufacturer which carries the highest quality piano/ continuous hinges? I am looking for the kind of thing which would be on a fine gun case or actual piano. I have tried Simon’s, Home Depot, McMaster, with no luck. A Clockwork Orange TRAILER
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Clockwork Orange is a 1971 satirical science fiction film adaptation of a 1962 novel of the same name, written by Anthony Burgess. The adaptation was produced, co-written, and directed by Stanley Kubrick. It stars Malcolm McDowell as the charismatic and psychopathic delinquent Alex DeLarge whose pleasures are classical music (especially Beethoven), rape, and ultra-violence. He is the leader of a small gang of thugs (Pete, Georgie and Dim), whom he calls his “droogs” (from the Russian word ???? meaning “friend” or “buddy”). Alex narrates most of the film in “Nadsat”, a fractured contemporary adolescent argot comprising Slavic (especially Russian), English, and Cockney rhyming slang. A Clockwork Orange features disturbing, violent imagery to facilitate social commentary on psychiatry, youth gangs, and other topics in a futuristic dystopian Britain.
The film features a soundtrack comprising mostly classical music selections and Moog synthesizer compositions by Wendy (then Walter) Carlos. One notable exception is “Singing in the Rain,” which was chosen because it was a song actor Malcolm McDowell knew all the words to.

Chase Stanley named Good Guy of the Month?
St George Illawarra’s Chase Stanley is inspiring troubled youths in a ‘Footy Fever’ community partnership that is helping teenagers turn their lives around.
Stanley was today named the One Community Good Guy of the Month for August in recognition of his work as a mentor to teenagers who have been young offenders or youth at risk though truancy, suspension, domestic and behavioural issues.
Stanley has been involved in the Footy Fever Program, run by St George PCYC in partnership with the Dragons Community and Development program, for the past two years.
“Chase is someone that young people in the program can turn to for advice, for a joke, for footy tips and as a friend,” said Senior Constable Amy Brewis, from St George PCYC.
“Chase has had more of an impact on them than many people may realise and the relationship he has built with them is extremely important in working with young people to stay on the straight and narrow.
“It has been a pleasure having Chase on the Footy Fever Program as an inspiring young mentor.”
Stanley’s work is also inspiring his team-mates to become involved in the program.
“I remember dropping Chase off last year and I saw the bond he had with the kids and could tell he was so excited to come down each week, I thought it would be a great thing to be part of,” said Dragons team-mate Jason Nightingale.
NRL Director, Community Relations, Trish Crews, said: “For someone as a young as Chase to be making such a difference to people’s lives is a credit to him and reflects his passion for an important community program.”
Stanley joins Jamie Simpson (Rabbitohs), Andrew Ryan (Bulldogs), Justin Carney (Raiders), Greg Inglis (Storm) and Nick Kenny (Broncos) as 2009 recipients of the One Community Good Guy of the Month award, which acknowledges the inspiring work NRL players are doing in the community throughout the season.
As the Good Guy of the Month, Stanley will receive two nights’ accommodation plus breakfast for 2 at the Holiday Inn Darling Harbour courtesy of IHG.
Good on him,
I think because he is a bit younger he can relate to the troubled youth more and help them with any trouble.
I knew Nightingale always helped out but i didn’t know Chase did as well.
As usual this story probably wont make the newspaper or maybe just tucked in a little corner so the media can focus on bad things.
There are way more good guys then bad in the NRL

How many hours per week (on average) do you work if you work at Merrill Lynch?
….Because my internship coordinator told me today that people who work for Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, etc., work 80-90 hours a week. Is this really true?
By the way, I am a Finance major and am considering doing an internship at Merrill Lynch, but I want to work normal hours..I want to have a life, basically. =)
Yes, that is true. Even summer analysts work very long hours. If you want to go into finance at any major bank, that’s to be expected.
The Dawn of Man: 2001 Space Odyssey

Bluntly, 2001 is one of the best science-fiction films made to date, if not the very best. Stanley Kubrick was a genius of a film maker and this is one of his very best works. And although it is misunderstood by many, and respectively underrated, it is considered one of the best films of all time and I’ll have to agree. Back in 1968, no one had done anything like this before, and no one has since. It was a marvel of a special effects breakthrough back then, and seeing how the effects hold up today, it is no wonder as to why. The film still looks marvelous after almost forty years! Take note CGI people. Through the use of large miniatures and realistic lighting, Kubrick created some of the best special effects ever put on celluloid. This aspect alone almost single-handedly created the chilling void of the space atmosphere which is also attributed to the music and realistic sound effects. I can’t think of another film where you can’t here anything in space, like it is in reality. Not only is the absence of sound effects in space realistic, it is used cleverly as a tool to establish mood, and it works flawlessly.
