stud finder that works on lathe and plaster walls?
Does anyone know of a brand/type of stud finder that works reliably on lathe and plaster walls? I have a cheap Stanley that I picked up at a local hardware store; it is completely useless. I don’t want to spend money on something that is just as useless.
My walls are plaster over wooden lathe boards (no chicken wire), the studs are about and 1 inch behind the lathe.
Mine is a Zircon Studsensor Pro SL. It has a deep scan mode for up to 1-1/2 inches thick. Easy to use and works great. About $20.
whats it like working for morgan stanley?
hi,
i have an interview coming up with Morgan Stanley, it’s an IT position. Just wondering, does anyone know what the work environment is like, i’ve heard there are long hours for finance companies. How the pay, raises work? just curious, as i’ve been with the same company now for 3 yrs, looking for a change, but want to make sure i’m interview for a company that takes care of it’s employees well, doesn’t make them work all day for nothing.
Unfortunately, in IT related careers, long hours come with the territory. Morgan Stanley is a great company for which to work, but you must be prepared to work non-conventional hours. While it should not be that often, you should prepare yourself to stay late anytime they are having any type of audit. The benefits are comparable to most jobs with the exception of some better 401K and possible stock options and profit sharing (which is not always offered). Health, vision, and dental insurance usually comes with the package for salaried employees at minimal cost to the employee. For the most part, having a big name like Morgan Stanley on your resume is quite impressive when applying for other jobs. Try to keep this one for at least 2 – 3 years and move on if you are not comfortable.

Splitting distilled water with a 12 volt power supply. This came out of an attempt to maximize reactive power and minimize active power in the circuit… although I’m not sure that was accomplished in the video. Anyway…
Circuit and parts are listed in the video. The setup is basically the Voltage Intensifier Circuit of Meyer with one major change: the second inductor (2nd wire in a bifilar-wound E core) instead of being in series with the circuit, has only one end attached to the circuit. How or why this works, I don’t yet know, but it does allow more power into the distilled water than any other method I have tried so far.
It is also frequency-dependent, unlike other methods where bubble action didn’t depend on any magical frequencies. Here, though, the first major resonant point is around 20kHz for my cell. There is about 2 inches of overlap between inner and outer steel cell. Also I drew the bulb location wrong – in the video it’s after the WFC, but in my diagram it was shown before… no difference since it behaved the same either way.
The bulb was put after the WFC as an indicator of power flow, and potentially as the “amp consuming device” Meyer talked about. Yeah I know it’s supposed to go before the WFC but goofed in my setup for the video, but it works the correct way just the same.
I tried resistors to limit current but they got hot as and burned my finger… potentiometer sparked and smoked, so a little lightbulb (only 4 ohms though) was my next try and that, plus the free floating second inductor terminal, is what you see here.
My guess is that the second bifilar wire is being driven both by capacitive current and magnetic field EMF from the first wire, and the electrons within the wire oscillate longitudinally in a standing wave, and that somehow does “something” to the bottom edge of the circuit by maybe injecting and taking away electrons when needed. So it acts as a forced electron reservoir perhaps, like a syringe sucking in and expelling electrons from a subdermal insertion point in the circuit.

what is it like working for morgan stanley? How is the corporate culture?
I work for Citigroup right now and find the corp. culture to be arrongant, highly political. The bank alos has little or no regard for work/life balance. Any insight??
I left JPM for MS a few years ago. I really like it. What it has over most of the other banks is that it has NOT gone through a ton of mergers. The culture is very solid and there are not many competing cultures. You work hard there, and they are NOT afraid to fire people that are not doing a good job. At JPM you could sit there and do nothing and still get a check and an OK bonus. I am guessing that Citi is more like JPM. There are political and arrogant people everywhere. At least at MS, I can honestly say that 80%-90% of the people I work with are good. At JPM, it was 10%-20%.

How many teams make it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
I’m very new to hockey (about one month now) and this will be the first time I’ll be watching the Stanley Cup playoffs, I’m can’t wait!
I read somewhere that 8 teams from each conference make it to the playoffs. Is this correct? Exactly how many teams make the playoffs and how do they decide?
Is it based on overall points leaders in the entire league or is it broken down into divisions/conference?
It is my understanding that there are 5 teams in each division making up a total of 30 NHL teams. Is it possible then that an entire division can make it to the playoffs while another division has no teams going?
I’m still unclear about how this works so many information would be extremely helpful. Thanks!
If you could also include any other information about the playoffs I would appreciate it, thanks!
Oof, next time I’ll proof read. Sorry about the grammatical mistakes ![]()
To answer each of your questions:
I read somewhere that 8 teams from each conference make it to the playoffs. Is this correct? Yes.
Exactly how many teams make the playoffs and how do they decide? 16 teams in all make the playoffs. Eight from each conference. The first 3 playoff seeds go to the division winners, and are ordered by points. The remaining 5 seeds go to the 5 teams with the most points in the conference.
Is it based on overall points leaders in the entire league or is it broken down into divisions/conference? It is broken down into two conferences, the Western and Eastern Conferences. Each conference has eight playoff teams. The top 3 spots go to the winners of the three divisions of the conference. The #1 spot to the division winner with the most points, and #3 spot to the division winner with the least points. The remaining 5 points go to the non-division winner point leaders.
It is my understanding that there are 5 teams in each division making up a total of 30 NHL teams. Is it possible then that an entire division can make it to the playoffs while another division has no teams going? Each division must have at least one team in the playoffs, as the division winner gets an automatic top 3 seeding. However, it is possible for a division to have all 5 teams in the playoffs, with the division winner in the top 3, and the remaining 4 teams in the remaining 5 seeds. This would be a very rare happening, though.
Each round is a best of seven series. In the Conference Quarterfinals, the 1 seed plays the 8 seed, the 2 seed plays the 7 seed, the 3 seed plays the 6 seed, the 4 seed plays the 5 seed. In the next round, called the Conference Semifinals the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed, and the two middle seeds play each other. Then the remaining two teams play each other in the Conference Finals, the winner goes to the Stanley Cup.
The higher seed in a meeting between two teams always has home ice advantage in the playoffs. For example, Team X is the #1 seed, and Team Y is the #8 seed.
Team X is the home team for games 1 and 2, while Team Y is the home team for games 3 and 4. If a winner has not been determined yet (you must win 4 games to win your series), the series goes back to Team X’s home ice for game 5. If still not determined, the series goes back to Team Y’s home ice for game 6. And, again, if a team has still not won the series, the series heads back to Team X’s home ice for the final game of the series, game 7.
Help me make sense of my Stock? Uncle works for Morgan & Stanley?
I own one ( i believe) share of stock in ADP that my uncle opened for me when i was like, 12. I guess every month i recieve a ’statement’ type thing from Morgan Stanley
It says i have 1 ADP stock, current price $41.90
Then under that is says:
"Asset Summary"
Debit Balance -234.80
Total Account Valuation $192.90
Then under that it says
Closing balance as of 6/30 -234.80
Do i owe money? Gained money? Can someone explain what all of this means lol my uncle lives a couple states away so i wont see him for a while. I really want to understand the stock i have… THANKS!
yea i get that part but does that mean if i share my one stock i need to pay $234?
as an investor, it’s pretty much impossible to ever OWE money. if it was fees, then they would have just liquidated part of your position to cover the fees.
the only way you could possibly OWE money is if your uncle set up a 12-yr old with a margin account, which would be absolutely ridiculously insane for him to do.
either call the brokerage or your uncle and figure out what’s going on here.
How do the Stanley Cup Playoffs work?
Isn’t a series seven games long and whoever wins that advances? Is that how it goes until it’s down to the last two teams and then they play one game for the cup?
it’s best of seven series and the stanley cup Finals is also a best of seven series
also after every round they re-seed the teams so that the highest seed vs. the lowest seed (Montreal #1 vs. Philly #6)(Detroit #1 vs. Colorado #6) and the other 2 vs. eachother (Pittsburgh #2 vs. NY rangers #5)(San Jose #2 vs. Dallas #5) they do that instead of following the bracket into round 2 like they do in basketball!
