What type of drill is best for cutting into a concrete manhole?

Posted on June 24th, 2010 by admin in drill | 5 Comments »

I need to run a new soil pipe into the drainage manhole, but I don’t know what drill I should hire. It’s really tough, and there may be some steel reinforcements. I’ve burnt out a hammer drill already, so I need something heavy duty.

Any suggestions,? – Preferably ones you’ve used before.

Hi, You can NOT use any type of core drill because the reinforcing will just rip off the cutting teeth, the only way to do it is by stitch drilling & then use a big hammer & chisel to knock concrete out & hack saw for reinforcing, Stitch drilling = Draw around pipe or collar then drill series of 10mm holes with a Hilti or similar, or FCUK hired core bits as other’s have advised.

How do I drill a hole in brick? Can I use my cordless drill and utility drillbits?

Posted on June 20th, 2010 by admin in drill | 11 Comments »

I just need to drill 3 holes to mount a flagpole bracket on my house.

Get a drill bit that you can use for masonary work.

I think you’d probably need an 18v cordless drill or stronger.

Happy drilling.

How to drill holes on ceramic tiles?

Posted on June 14th, 2010 by admin in drill | 3 Comments »

I tried to drill holes on ceramic tile with tile drill bit (spade shaped). I spend several hours and did get through it. How can I do it? Do diamond or carbide bit work well for this? Thanks.

You will need a diamond tipped drill bit. Since the tile is on the floor or wherever, Sears, Home Depot, Lowe’s carries everything you’d need.

How to drill a screw hole in ceramic floor tile?

Posted on June 6th, 2010 by admin in drill | 6 Comments »

We just installed ceramic floor tile. We removed a set of bifold doors and will be replacing them with by-pass doors. Fot the bypass doors, a center guide for the doors needs to be attached in the center on the tile floor.

What type of drill bit? What size? One slightly smaller than screw like drilling wood or not? Any helpful hints, tips also appreciated! Thanks!

From your hardware store get plastic screw plugs to suit the screw you want to fit. get the corresponding masonery bit also get a smaller one to drill first. It is also easier yo drill a small hole and make it the right size than ues the right size and make it bigger.
Don’t use a nail and a hammer as mentioned eairler as you may eaisly crack the tile if it is not glued to the surface fully

Why cannot drill into wall when mounting a flat screen tv?

Posted on June 3rd, 2010 by admin in drill | 9 Comments »

I’m trying to drill with my 9.5v drill set. But after about 1.5 inches, I cannot drill into the wall anymore. This is a 2005 house at the place right above the fire place. stud sensor said it’s the right place. I wonder if stud sensor found a steel beam. But even if it’s steel I should be able to drill into it with max drill setting. I’m not sure if anyone have good advice for me.

If your drill has already gone in 1-1/2 inches, it is NOT a nail plate. Nail plates are attached to the surface of the stud, so you would hit that after going through the drywall. This would only be 1/2" deep.

I would not force the drill through. You are likely hitting pipes that run through the wall horizontally. Open the wall up and see what is in there. While you are in there, add some blocking for the TV. It’s the best way to mount it (you don’t want to buy a new TV when the bracket falls off of the wall), and you will get to see what actually is in the wall. The TV will hide the patch. Hope this helps.
